Football Betting Markets
Football is a huge global betting phenomenon with leagues and events in over 62 countries available to bet on 24/7 365 days a year. Most major football betting sites offer over 100 betting markets on a single game with big popular games having over 200 markets.
But what do all these betting markets mean? Here’s a simple explanation of the most popular football betting markets:
Match Odds (Full Time Result) – 90 regulation minute match result. Home win, away win or draw. Note this is only for 90 minutes so includes ‘added time’ in standard league games but not ‘extra time’ in events and competitions.
Draw No Bet – If it’s a draw you get your money back. Obviously as there are only 2 results here the odds will be less than a Match Odds bet that has 3 results.
Double Chance – There are three outcomes Home Win or Draw, Away Win or Draw or Home or Away. The draw is excluded. Like the Draw No Bet the odds are lower than a Match Odds bet.
Correct Score – The full time correct score in 90 regulation minutes. The odds here are high because of the unpredictability of football.
First Goalscorer – The first goal scorer of a game, also available are Last Goal Scorer and Anytime Goalscorer although these last two bets have smaller odds.
Half Time/Full Time – The result at half time and full time combined together. So for example Home Win/Home Win, Home Win /Draw or Home Win/ Away Win. There are 9 outcomes.
Over/Under Goals – Predicting the number of goals per match. The options start at Over or Under 0.5 Goals, under 0.5 Goals is a 0-0 draw. The most popular Over/Under market is Over/Under 2.5 with some games only offering this Over/Under market. A 2-1 score line would win if the Over price was taken on an Over/Under 2.5 Market.
Handicap Match Result – Odds are offered on the result at the end of the game with the Home side and/or Away side being handicapped by a number of goals. For example Home win + 1, if the Home team draw 1-1 the bet would win because you add in the +1 goal so the actual handicapped result is 2-1.
Asian Handicap Result – Same as above but there are two results offered. This reduces the possible number of outcomes from 3 to 2 by eliminating the draw outcome. Your stake is automatically divided equally and placed as 2 separate bets. This means that with a handicap point of 0-0.5 or 0 and ½, half of your stake is on the 0 point handicap and the other half is on the 0.5 handicap. Example Brighton Vs Norwich. Handicap: Norwich +1.0, +1.5
This handicap states that half of your bet goes on Norwich to win, draw, or lose by less than 1 goal; and half on Norwich to win, draw, or lose by less than 1.5 goals.
If the final score is Brighton 1-0 Norwich, half your bet would be refunded due to draw (Brighton 1 – +1 Norwich, i.e: Norwich lost by exactly one goal). The second half would win (Brighton 1 – +1.5 Norwich, i.e: Norwich lost by less than 1.5 goals).
